The Drum

Kamela Jordan was raised as the daughter of American missionaries in a small hilltribes village in the mountains of northern Thailand. After finishing high school at a mission boarding school in Chiangmai, Thailand, she returned to the U.S. for college. She has lived and worked in Indiana, South Carolina, Israel and Minnesota. Living as a foreigner during her formative years and returning to her country of origin only as an adult gave her the opportunity to interpret culture from the outside looking in. Her essay "Fried Locusts" first appeared in The Chalk Circle: Intercultural Prize-Winning Essays, edited by Tara Masih.

"Fried Locusts" appears in the May 2012 issue of The Drum.
